Launch platform Urban Commons of Culture
This event marks the launch of The Urban Commons of Culture, Past & Present, a new online platform for reflection and exchange on how culture and creativity can thrive in cities in an open and inclusive way.
During the launch event, the website will be presented by the initiators of the new platform. A range of speakers will provide talks related to the urban commons of culture, followed by a panel discussion
Elizabeth Currid-Halkett Is Chair in Urban and Regional Planning and professor of public policy at the Price School. Her most recent book is The Sum of Small Things. A Theory of the Aspirational Class
Tim Verlaan is Assistant Professor in Urban History at the University of Amsterdam. Recently he published the book De ruimtemakers. Projectontwikkelaars en de Nederlandse binnenstad 1950-1980
Roel Griffioen is a journalist and PhD researcher at Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, Ghent University. His most recent book is De Frontlinie: Bestaansonzekerheid en gentrificatie in de Creatieve Stad.
The talks are followed by a panel discussion, chaired by Marielle Hendriks of the Boekmanstichting. The panel includes representatives from local arts, culture, and creative industries such as Vera de Jong (Urban Connectors and Lucas Hendricks/A-Lab).
