Call for Visiting Scholar
This academic year, the Centre for Urban Studies launches a call for a visiting scholar award. The aim of this award is to institute a visiting scholar program, going beyond the existing formats supporting short visits for participation in public lectures, PhD-workshops, and/or research seminars (which will remain a possibility).
The program awards once a year to one scholar funding for a stay of 6 weeks to 3 months, with an indicative budget of 5,000 to 10,000 euros covering travel and living expenses. This funding will be competitively awarded based on an application detailing the contribution to be made during the visit, and the CV of the applicant. Therefore, applications should include proposals for a visiting scholar that clearly provides something substantial and additional.
- A lecture series (possibly in collaboration with the graduate school/the teaching program);
- A multiple session PhD/research master student training;
- A major joint research grant application;
- The writing of an essay on Amsterdam or of a reflection on the Centre.
The application needs to be done by the members of two different CUS program groups, who will also act as hosts during the visit. The CUS will finance the visit, and facilitate the logistics and communications concerning the scientific activities of the visitor. The hosts will be the link between the CUS staff and the visitor, and be responsible for sorting out the administrative aspects of the visit, in collaboration with their department (e.g. registration of the visitor at the department, ensuring there is office space available, helping the search for housing).
To be considered, please send an application of max. 600 words to: email@example.com before the 20th of November 2017. Applications should include:
- Two members of different program groups, confirming to be host;
- CV of the visitor;
- Description of the contribution to be made during the visit;
The director of CUS will assess the applications against the above criteria but ask the Executive and Advisory Boards to approve the decision.
