Housing has recently become a hot political topic. Many of us are comfortably housed, but an ever-growing group is struggling to find housing at all, let alone housing that is suitable and affordable. Cody Hochstenbach conducts research into this inequality in the housing market. He is particularly interested in how housing can be not only a solution to, but also a driver of, social inequality: in areas such as wealth accumulation, physical and mental health outcomes, and exposure to climate risks. His research also focuses on the influence of (housing) policy on these forms of inequality and offers recommendations for reducing them. Since 2025, he has been co-director of the Amsterdam Centre for Inequality Studies (AMCIS).
The Young Academy is committed to the future of science: it promotes the value of science and improves the science system. The Academy consists of fifty members from all Dutch universities who are jointly responsible for its identity and activities. The members share a deep passion for science and a desire to share this with society. Members are appointed for five years, with ten new members joining and leaving each year. This ensures a constant flow of new plans and ideas. At the time of appointment, the members received their PhDs less than ten years ago, have proven themselves in their fields, and represent a wide variety of disciplines.
